Ben Kleymeyer is a queer theatre artist– usually working as a director, performer, or deviser– focused on new and devised work. They are interested in exploring questions of gender, identity, and the relationship between bodies and the space they take up. They are also interested in creating tension between text and movement. In process they pull from various methodologies (Grotowski, Laban, Viewpoints, etc) to devise the physical landscape of a piece. Ben is inspired by texts that lend themselves to big actor driven spectacle, queer aesthetics, and often texts that re-contextualize classic stories. Ben is currently an Ensemble Member at Single Carrot Theatre. They have also worked as a director and assistant director at Fells Point Corner Theatre, Cohesion Theatre Company, Nine Dollar Bill Theatre, Charm City Fringe, Capital Fringe, and the National New Play Network’s Playwrights Workshop. Ben is a graduate of The University of Maryland.
